Unity of Communication

Regardless of where you live, your occupation, or your age, your daily life will be influenced by the communities to which you belong. People are limited by the rules and social norms developed by their communities. Adherence to these rules grants one membership, whereas aversion leads one to be excluded. A community is, in basest terms, a group of people unified by some factor. These factors could be anything, ranging from interests, location, goals, occupations, ancestry, and the list goes on. People are brought together by these similarities, and by interacting with one another, they can promote progress. With this sort of success, sustainability is achieved.

A community’s growth and success is directly related to its sustainability. If a community cannot last, it will eventually shrink and die. Certain elements are required for a community to be sustainable. Among the most important is communication. Without the ability to relay thoughts and ideas to one another, a community cannot do anything. In our world, communication is done through our use of language. Whether it is spoken or written, televised or tweeted, language is arguably the most important component of a lasting community.

To be sustained, a community must also have order. Often, a leader or group of leaders will be appointed to oversee the well-being of the community. These leaders are necessary to provide motivation and promote progress. From an athletic standpoint, leaders of a team act as motivators, encouraging members to succeed, as well as promoting team unity. A good leader will also echo the sentiments of the members of their community. The more trust a community instills in their leader, the more successful their community will be. Adolph Hitler was given free reign of Germany, and he gave his people what they wanted. More territory and a better economy, uniting the German people against the oppression they suffered since the Treaty of Versailles.

Communities come in countless forms and styles. They can be very specific or organized, or they could be broad and open structured. A college student finds themselves in countless communities. Their country, their university, their campus, their dorm, their major, their class, their blog group… These communities shape their members’ lives in every way possible, bringing order and belonging to mankind.
