If Home is Where the Heart is...

Knowing a place is important to how you feel about it because the more roots you have somewhere, the more you are attached to that certain community. You should know what kind of community you are in, what kind of people live there, what the education system is like, what the politics are like, and whether or not you see yourself fitting into the community. It is important for people to feel like they belong and feel they are just as important as any other member of the community. A place needs to have the obvious things, such as hospitals, school etc. But it should also have things that make it unique, such as a historical popcorn shop or an amusement park. For us to be happy somewhere, there needs to be some form of entertainment, such as cinema, coffeehouses, restaurants, or clubs. And overall, it just needs to be a welcoming community where we feel like we fit in, with people who are friendly.

To us, community is not only where you live, but the people you surround yourself with as well. As previously said, knowing a place has an impact on how you feel about it. The more you know about a community and the things that go on within it, the more you feel like you are a part of it. In one sense, we feel at home when we are surrounded by the people we care about the most, regardless of where we are physically. In another sense, we feel at home when we are in a familiar place and know about events going on, being able to go to the local places that we love, and knowing all the back roads like the palms of our hands. In order for us to be happy in a community, we need to know that our voice counts. If there is something that we are not happy with, there should be someone we can contact and some way for us to express it and work towards the change.

Communities need ways to connect individuals. People are brought together when they are working for a common goal. They need community centers, or all-city projects. Ways to bring citizens, young and old together. Communities need ways for citizens to make friends. That's what community activities can do. With this unification, a community can be stable and long-lasting.
