Exploring Athens

As a group, we believe that an OU student must get the "Court Street Experience." This is a very adjustable occasion, and it fits well with the diversity that comes with Ohio University. There are plenty of different ways to have fun at OU on Court Street. There is always the bar scene, if you are of age of course. But it gives different opportunities to those who do not participate in drinking. One of my favorite things about Court Street is the different places to eat. There are so many options, and some of the few that I frequent are Mikes Dog Shack, Chipotle, Big Mommas, Bagel Street Deli, Good Fellas, and Courtside. All of these places have great food at college kid level prices. Mikes Dog shack offers great hot dogs with almost any topping you can name to put on it. Chipotle....well if you don’t know about chipotle already, you don’t deserve to read this. Big Mommas is a burrito place that offers two sizes and different combinations of odd ingredients that turn into a pleasant burrito surprise. Bagel street deli is a great sandwich place that offers a variety of bagels, and the best pretzel bread ever. Good Fellas and Courtside are both pizza places. Good Fellas is geared more towards late night pizza, if you understand. Courtside is more of a sit down place that offers great variation of pizza, along with the great classics.

But beyond Court Street is the Athens Farmer's Market. This is the place to be if you prefer real food. It's a great place to interact with the locals too. And a step beyond that is Strouds Run State Park. There are miles of trails, caves, evergreen forest, and even a beach at Strouds Run. Athens is a very diverse area, much of it lying below the surface. It's hard to explore it all, but the more you explore, the more you like Athens.

  1. Pretzel bread! I haven't tried that yet, but it reminds me of home.

  2. Chipotle is so good!--but I'm ashamed to admit I like Qdoba better!
